Refrigerator Pie Crust

A time tested pie crust recipe. This pie crust keeps well in the refrigerator and will actually turn out better if kept cold until use. The added sugar gives it a slightly sweet taste.

Recipe for Refrigerator Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3 teaspoons vinegar
  • cold water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
  2. Cut shortening into flour mixture until pea-sized.

Perfect Strawberry Pie

Recipe for Perfect Strawberry Pie

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry jello powder

Instructions

  1. Cook sugar, cornstarch, syrup and water until clear.
  2. Add jello powder.
  3. Mix together and cool.
  4. Add strawberries and pour in a pre-baked pie crust.
  5. Slice and serve.

Never Fail Pie Crust

The combination of shortening and lard make this crust flaky and tender. Easy to make. A perfect crust for any filling!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 egg whipped
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • cold water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Chop in shortening and lard.
  3. In a 1 cup measure add whipped egg, and vinegar; then fill up the cup the rest of the way with water.

Flaky Pastry

Golden, flaky pastry tastes great with any filling!

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 cups pastry flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • cold water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix shortening into flour with pastry blender until pea-sized.
  2. Put the salt, vinegar and egg into a glass measuring cup and add enough cold water to make one cup.
  3. Pour the liquid into the flour mixture and work with a fork until well blended.
  4. Chill well before rolling out.

Apple Cranberry Pie

A combination of sweet apples and colorful, tart cranberries, make a tasty twist on traditional apple pie.

Recipe for Apple Cranberry Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 double crust pie crust
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 cups peeled apple slices
  • 2 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup, light or dark
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • milk to brush top of pie
  • white sugar to sprinkle

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, stir sugar, corn starch and cinnamon until well mixed.
